The Achieving Independence Center (AIC) is a “one-stop center” designed to help young people, ages 16-21, from the dependent (foster care) system achieve their future goals of self-sufficiency.
The Housing Advocate is responsible for: Conducting individual housing counseling
- Assisting youth in developing and implementing individual housing plans that lead to independent living and permanent housing options.
- Teaching workshops related to housing topics as needed
- Assisting youth in finding and registering for emergency housing placements
- Referring youth to appropriate housing support programs, including transitional housing programs
- Developing relationships with private market landlords and rental agencies, housing-related service providers and public/government-based housing entitites
- Advocating for youth with regard to housing-related issues
- The ideal candidate will possess:
A commitment to positive youth development and a strengths-based approach.
- Training in (or willingness to learn) adventure-based counseling techniques.
- Master's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or other related field.
- Minimum of two or more years working with adolescents, work with homeless youth and/or youth with a dependent care history preferred.
- Child Abuse, Criminal Background and FBI clearances.
- Available early evenings and weekends.
- Enjoys working with teens.
