Home ›Key Ingredient to Making HUD's Pie Bigger is the 302b Allocation
From the National Low Income Housing Coalition
Appropriators need to increase the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) Subcommittee Allocation for FY13.
The Congressional Appropriations process begins with the House and Senate Committees on Appropriations divvying up Congress’s total spending for the year between the 12 appropriations subcommittees. These allocations to subcommittees are called the 302(b) allocations. The THUD subcommittee provides funding to HUD and its 302b allocation was cut deeply in FY12.
In order to increase funding for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in FY13, appropriators need to increase the FY13 THUD subcommittee allocation first.
This first step in the appropriations process is more critical for FY13 than past fiscal years because the House and Senate Appropriations Committees will likely have fewer total dollars to divide between subcommittees, a result of the 2011 Budget Control Act.
NLIHC urges local, state, and national organizations to sign this letter to the Chairs and Ranking Members of the House and Senate Committees on Appropriations, calling on them to increase the THUD allocation in FY13.
Click here to sign on to the letter by March 20.
