Job Opportunity: Vice President for Policy

The Center for Community Progress, a national non-profit, capacity building, policy and advocacy organization that helps communities prevent and reuse vacant, abandoned, and underutilized properties, is seeking to hire a Vice President for Policy, to fulfill the following responsibilities:

Preparation of memoranda of law, policy, and systems related to discrete topics by state such as property tax foreclosure procedures, land banking, vacant and abandoned property ordinances, and mortgage foreclosure procedures;
• Drafting of state legislation and local ordinances;
• Coordination and direction of state and local legislative initiatives;
• Preparation of analysis of federal legislation and federal programs;
• Provision of technical assistance to state and local governments;
• Supervision of summer interns and limited appointment Fellows in Law and Public Policy, and;
• Such others matters as may assigned or requested by the COO. 

The preferred candidate must have a competency in legal research and legal analysis, particularly with respect to state and local government law, legal aspects of real estate finance, particularly mortgage foreclosure law, in legal aspect of state legislative process, proficiency in facilitating local and state networks and coalition and proficiency in legislative advocacy, including legislative testimony.

Bachelor's Degree and J.D. degree are required, with active and on-going membership in a state bar. A minimum of 15 years of experience in planning, community development, public administration or related field is preferred. Salary range $90,000 - $105,000.

They have offices in Flint, Michigan, Washington, DC, and New Orleans. This position can be located in our Flint, Michigan or Washington, DC office. They will consider telecommuting, as well.
