Housing Coalition Educates Elected Officials About Funding

On January 9, The Housing and Homeless Coalition of Beaver County hosted a meeting with Congressman Altmire, Representative Marshall, Beaver County Commissioners and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Pittsburgh Field Office Staff to share the value of federal housing programs to Beaver County.  Housing consumers from Supportive Housing, Inc. shared their experiences with homelessness and recovery, one of whom had been successfully sober for 4 years and runs a resident cleaning initiative in his apartment building, which he initiated.

Since 1992, Beaver County has received more than $35.5 Million in federal funding for housing and homelessness and with those funds they’ve been able to provided 141 Permanent Supportive Housing Beds, 87 Transitional Supportive Housing Beds, 42 Habitat for Humanity Homes, 10 Neighborhood Stabilization Program Homes and 47 HOME Projects as well as helped 2901 Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program Households, created 67 Full-Time Jobs and 12 Part-Time Jobs.

Congressman Altmire was interested to learn about the impact federal dollars are having in his district and said he would like to work with the Coalition to learn more about the impact future cuts could have.

Over the past year, the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania has organized 92 state and federal visits, with 325 participants with the intent of helping our elected leaders to understand the impact of state and federal dollars on communities and people in Pennsylvania.
