Join the Housing Alliance! The Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania is a membership organization. Today, we have a strong and growing membership of over 500 organizations and individuals that represent the affordable housing needs and interests of rural, urban, and suburban communities statewide. Membership is the foundation of our organization, and the source of our strength. We urge you to become a member of the Housing Alliance and add your voice to ours.Your Membership Matters. Quite simply, the more members, the greater our power base to speak for the needs of working families, young adults, seniors, and those living with mental or physical disabilities. Through membership, you count. Together, our voices are heard. Today in Pennsylvania, a person earning minimum wage has to work 97 hours a week in order to afford a two-bedroom apartment at the state's Fair Market Rent. 900,000 Pennsylvanians live in severely cost-burdened and/or substandard housing. Membership Funds Our Work in Harrisburg. As you know, it is almost impossible to get funds to lobby through any means other than individual contributions. We rely on membership dollars to organize statewide action and to educate legislators about the impact of proposed laws. With the help of members, we can win! In a David and Goliath battle, our members defeated a push for accelerated eviction statutes that would have placed an unfair burden on Pennsylvania's 1.4 million renters. We provide solid information, research-based alternatives and reasonable dialogue with policy makers about the dire need for--and benefits of--safe, decent, affordable and accessible homes. Without adequate housing, children are more likely to miss school and suffer chronic health problems. With affordable homes, people are more likely to be successful in the transition from welfare to work. We Are Your Eyes and Ears in Harrisburg. We keep our members informed of important developments. We watch for opportunities and threats, and alert you through email alerts, fax, our weekly e-newsletter, and our website, so you know what's going on. Members Participate. Membership is the best way to represent the needs of your community and advocate for needed change. As a member you can help set the Housing Alliance agenda, elect our leadership and shape the action. Members can participate in the monthly Housing Alliance Legislative Committee meetings, or sit on task forces and committees to work on specific events. Your Support and Participation Makes a Difference. The Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania is the VOICE for affordable housing in Harrisburg. Through research, education and advocacy, we promote realistic solutions to the affordable housing crisis. We would like to invite you to add your voice to ours. Let Harrisburg know that HOUSING MATTERS -- because everyone has the right to a safe, decent, affordable place to call home.
