In 2004 the Housing Alliance, with our friends and allies, worked for--and won:
- New leadership at the state level for affordable housing
- Establishment of the first-ever Governor's Office of Housing and Community Revitalization
- More funding for housing
- Doubling of the state's budget for Housing and Redevelopment Assistance
- Doubling of--and full utilization of--the state tax credit set-aside to preserve subsidized housing
- Preservation of affordable housing
- Organizing residents to save 600 units of subsidized housing that would otherwise have been lost
- Success at sustaining federal funding
- Innovative new tools to address vacant property
- Legislation with bi-partisan, bicameral support based on our Reclaiming Abandoned PA report
The Housing Alliance has brought new expertise and energy to critical housing issues, through successful research, education and outreach. In 2004:- We promoted innovation, recognized leadership, and brought people together through the Second Annual Statewide Conference on Vacant Property
- We promoted inclusive communities through a first-of-its-kind Toolkit for Addressing Community Opposition to Housing Development and a training forum with 150 people
- We researched and explained the state of housing in Pennsylvania through a publication and a conference with 125 people
- We spoke--and listened--at over 30 coalition meetings, conferences, trainings and events throughout the state
- Our membership reached an all-time high of nearly 500 organizations and individuals
